Visit to Los Angeles and The O.C. Nov 23-30, 2024, for Thanksgiving
(apologies to anyone we didn't get to visit)
After landing at LAX, we braved the traffic to get to Laguna Beach to have leftovers from their Friendsgiving, still very tasty, with Paula, Salomon, and Leslie (not pictured) but next am (Sunday) from Paula's balcony, a quick pic of their view.
Next stop was Cerritos to see cousins Karen and Timmy, also with a surprise visit from Jasmine. Timmy is obviously glad to see me!!
Now for a regular pose!!
Now the whole group, including cousin Hope.
Next visit was to see friend from days in Torrance, Beryl, with her dog Zesty, where I got some insight into retired life.
(That day was Beryl's BD and I didn't realize it until now! Doh!! And HBBD!)
...after which we met up in Culver City with Marta and her friend Leslie for Korean BBQ, which they make right at the table. We were on our own to imagine our waiter as a star of his own K-drama.
Marta let us crash at her place (Thank you, Marta!). Next morning (Mon am) we were off to see some peeps at Cedars Sinai where I did my spine fellowship and Merle worked. Times have certainly changed: metal detector, requiring an employee to come down and vouch for us (that we're not terrorists) but we made it in!
We got to see Nicole (Nic Nic) who moved from Albany and Phoebe to be on the CV team to the movie stars at Cedars.
Merle got to catch up with Era, who drives from Palos Verdes to Cedars every day (for the GA peeps, that's a long way!)
And I got to see Alan, who was a nurse when I was in my spine fellowship there, happened to break out of a case for a second to say hi.
Next stop was to see cousin Brian who works at Fox Studios, who gave us a tour of the place, and treated us to lunch at Moe's cafe.
That's Moe...
from The Simpsons
Next visit was with David McKinney, friend from high school and UCLA, works as location scout in L.A (in the biz...)
Tues am 11/26 we met with some bros from UCLA, Brian Shane and Jerry Goodman at Western Bagel. It was a little chilly out but the company was warm.
Afterwards, being in Encino, we drove through the old 'hoods and visited with an across the street neighbor Chris A (not pictured).
Next day, Wed, we hung out with Aunt Gloria, went with her to her exercise class, cooked, and then in the spirit of living large, had dinner at Panda Express. Woo hoo!! :)
Thursday 11/28, I had a little very early coffee visit with friend from Jr. High School, Kenny Jacobs (not pictured), and then made our way to the Thanksgiving in Irvine, CA. We got there a little early as cousin Brenda has a neighbor who had an ortho question, and we were happy to oblige.
Pre-feast visiting with cousin Brian, David, and Len.
David caught us mid-selfie, with his own selfie.
Ok...
We'll pay attention.
Here's the whole gang (minus photographer Brenda, pictured below)
It was quite a feast.
Afterwards, we had music with
Andrew (piano),
Courtney (vocals),
Steve M. (bass guitar),
Brian (sax),
and David (ukelele)
Friday, 11/29, we met the Yoffe side of the family for a brunch at a local deli. Clockwise, starting with white puffy coat: Joy, Scott, Landon. Ron, Michele, MW, MS, Andee.
After that visit, we were off to see stepmother Mollie (seated in center) with great gran Daniel on her lap.
(wait...great gran Dan??)
After that, we were off the Palos Verdes to visit (and stay with) my friend from med school Eda, who is a retired ortho, and often my unofficial life advisor.
Then, alas, back to Albany and our regular duties.
Thanks for looking!
