Taking advantage of the beautiful cloud free weather to take the Banff Gondola up Sulfur Mountain
Apparently, we were not alone with this plan. Though we bought our Roam bus ticket to the gondola base, word was at the visitor center, and from another travel agency, that gondola tickets were all sold out.
Even at the main bus stop in town to catch that bus, it was so crowded that nobody was even allowed on the bus (think of trying to cram more sardines into the can).
Not taking "no" for an answer, here is Merle running to a stop that is earlier on that bus route to get on that bus and deal with the "sold out" issue later.
This picture is called:
"Woman on a mission"
Spoiler: We did make it to the base of the mountain, and DID (woo hoo!) get tickets. Aside from being our last day, the weather was great, and earlier in the week, had we gone, we would have been taking the gondola through a cloud.
Sold out?? We even got our own gondola!!
Here are some amazing views with various mountains and some with Banff town behind up. The elevation was about 8000 feet above sea level (translation: it's up there).
Banff town is in a valley (Bow Valley) between two ranges that are extensions of our Rocky Mountains and extend all the way up to Alaska. The red arrow shows the continuation of the valley.
The red arrow shows the Tunnel mountain that we hiked on 6/18. Relative to sea level, Sulfur mountain is about 8000 feet, and Tunnel mountain is about 5500 feet.
Here, Merle points to our hotel room (really good vision). :)
We even saw some wildlife up there. Aside from chipmunks and a few squirrels and some interesting birds, there was this feller who looked something like a beaver, but our online search led us to conclude it is a hoary marmot.
Back in town, we spent some more time walking around, had some lunch, and then got to work on this website!!
On the way out of town, Merle captured (photographically) this member of the Elk send off committee.
We eventually did make it home, but long journey. With the shuttles and airline schedule along with delays, we woke up at 4am on Sat and got home at 4am on Sunday. Just sharing. Thanks for looking!!
